What’s Leading the Growth in Boise?

Boise, Idaho — The City of Trees. Once a hidden gem buried in the Northwest, Boise continues to dominate lists of America’s fastest-growing cities. For those of us who have lived in the Treasure Valley before the national spotlight illuminated it, we’ve seen massive growth.

This involves everything from the increased time it takes to get from one spot to another, to the sudden rise of buildings in the downtown landscape. These are all welcoming signs that Boise is an appealing place to live, work, and play.

According to Forbes, the population in Boise grew by 3.08 percent in 2017, compared to the national population growth of 0.71 percent. This makes it the number one fastest-growing city in the country! But what’s making Boise so attractive for so many people? A lot of it has to do with the city itself. Famously known as the City of Trees, there is a lot of greenery. Anyone who’s climbed Table Rock can immediately spot the trees. No matter which direction you look, there is a surge of trees in your view.

One of the real indicators of growth is Boise’s housing market, which is still more affordable than in most cities. Noticed the increase in California license plates in your daily commute? That’s because California’s high housing prices are causing people to relocate to places like Boise where the housing prices are significantly less. Boise’s housing options are five times cheaper than in California. Factor in low crime, a slower-paced lifestyle, and a city-wide welcoming spirit, and Boise is definitely on the rise.

Similar to the population, employment grew by 3.58 percent in 2017 in the Treasure Valley. Boise is growing into a big city, but as many have discovered, without the drawbacks. Because costs to operate corporations is less than larger established cities, companies have relocated or opened their offices in Boise. The driving factor behind that is that they’ve been able to find the same technical talent here, without the expensive extras. Many employers have discovered that Boise is a place that houses a lot of talent individually and technically. It’s a city that is quickly becoming a haven for entrepreneurs.

Keeping up with the same spirit, businesses like Urban Link Marketing have decided to start offering their services from within Boise. This marketing agency is new to downtown Boise but is definitely not new to success. Originating with similar business expertise as other ventures, founder Chris Jones and his team will offer services globally while keeping a local presence in Boise.

The quality of life in Boise is different. One of the greatest things that makes Boise special is our community. We’re lucky to have the outdoors at our front door. The Greenbelt famously lines the Boise River and is attractive for runners, walkers, bikers, and strollers (with babies and grownups alike). A short drive away, the Foothills provide what seems like endless trails for a variety of activities. Anywhere you look, a friendly wave and hello meet you. From downtown farmer’s markets to running events that shut down streets, it’s simply a great place to be.

Boise is also gaining popularity when it comes to food, breweries, and music. The city has a lot of unique places to visit for dining and entertainment, all inspired by locals. In a similar fashion, Treefort Music Festival has been drawing in crowds to downtown Boise for several years now. This involves the local community in things like film, technology, comedy, beer, and live performances during a four-day timeline.

There are probably several other things to mention that make Boise an ideal city. The sudden increase in population and development is an added indication that Boise is the place to be. It’s a sign that other people are discovering the potential and possibilities that Boise offers. Together, we’re all making it an even better place to live, work, and play.
